There are some very nasty viruses out there & adware and spyware that slow you down (some are using your internet connection too). In case you are damn annoyed with them reboot your computer enter the Boot Menu (by pressing F8 when Windows are going to boot) and select Safe Mode With Network. When Inside do your stuff, and when the system's clean reboot to normal mode.

I've noticed that most viruses (at least those who tend to start with windows, they are either hidden in the registry or in the windows start up) and those which do not infect fundamental executable files such as explorer.exe or svchost.exe, do not load when in safe mode (and you work on a "clean" enviroment).

Another good tip is to install your system before pluggin it to the network (yeap this applies to Windows users, since 90%+ of viruses are targeting them), install your antivirus, etc. and then get online and grab the updates :).

Finally, if in any case you install Windows XP (with no service pack or SP1) there are some remains of the Sasser/Blaster virus out there. If you see a message informing you that the system is going down in less than one minute and you can close it just Go to start menu, click Run and type "shutdown -a" (without the quotation marks). Hit enter and voila, your computer wont reboot this time. (Parenthesis, the shutdown utility rocks, I'll give you some info later on this)

Cheers everybody
