A bit late though, i've been absent for some days now...

To the Tip part.

While working a Word 2003 document (and I think it applies to Word 2007), the application crashes, and you are afraid to close it (in case it recovers), you can do the following:
Start->Run and type %appdata%.
Browse the "Microsoft" folder and then the "Word" Folder, there you will find a backup of the file you were working (or more) with an .asd extension. Copy and paste this file (since its locked) and open the copy.

You haven't lost everything, yet remember to Save regularly.
