Scanjack posted a Poll about CA Rank Names vs Tech/Site Titles on the Polling forum. Please be kind enough to visit it and provide your opinion there.

With this post I'd like to begin a discussion on a matter, discussed a lot on CyberArmy. Ranks.
Personally, I am up for keeping the current rank system with some alterations of course. We might not be an "Army" nowadays with the strict meaning of the word army, but still we have a history of more than a decade with this very name and the ranks, which came a little after, if I recall correct.

I believe that the basic ranks (Trooper, Second Lieutenant, etc) should be kept as they are. Its a part of CA's history and should be stand here to remind us who we are, and from where we began.

We can certainly forget the Sered ranks. To be A Beta Lieutenant or to be a Lieutenant is not a great difference, it's just there to show people that you are skilled enough to pass Sered's second level.

On their position we could add special ranks (maybe 2-3) to be given by the CinC to people who have contributed a lot to the community or have shown their devotion to the community (or add any other reason here). Like the Medal of Honor in a real army.

I think that we should stick to the Army scheme for the time being. Large and Extended changes cant be done from one day to the other, if we feel that we should move on to something more computer-like (an IT-Community for example, with IT ranks and titles).

Remember this reflects only my personal opinion. I'm looking forward to see your opinions on the subject.

Cheers,
Icy
